MB&F Megawind in Rose Gold
Horological Machine No.3, or HM3, is one of MB&F's most instantly recognizable creations. It has been released in many variations over the years, including the popular Frog editions and a collaboration with Stepan Sarpaneva, but today we have another HM3 variant for you, the Megawind. More than a few small changes have been made from the original and we've got all the details for you here.
The large rotor gives the Megawind its name
First off, as you might guess from the name, the winding rotor takes center stage in the Megawind. The open sapphire window displays the massive battle-axe-shaped winding rotor and balance wheel, forgoing the date complication on the original HM3. This rotor was originally conceived by Stepan Sarpaneva and is what MB&F call a "mystery rotor" because it appears symmetrical but still spins properly like an asymmetrical rotor - this symmetry is really an optical illusion as mass has been shaved off the underside of the blade on one side of the rotor, allowing it to function properly.
The Megawind in white gold
The shape of the time indicating cones has been changed slightly to improve readability. To further this goal, the day/night indicator and hash marks have been removed from the tops of the cones, which instead mirror the image displayed below (either hours or minutes). This makes the Megawind easier to read at a quick glance, even if you cannot clearly see the entire cone.
